Venezuela landslide kills at least 25 people, 50 missing | CNN


A landslide in Venezuela on Sunday killed 25 people and left more than 50 missing in the north central state of Aragua, officials said.

Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez said days of heavy rain caused a landslide in the municipality of Santos Michelena after five tributaries of the Las Tejerias River overflowed.

President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro tweeted on Sunday He had ordered “maximum deployment” of the interior ministry and security agencies to respond to the emergency.

More than 1,000 officers of the National Risk Management System and police officers are participating in search and rescue operations, Carlos Perez, Deputy Minister of Risk Management and Civil Defense.

The president declared three days of national mourning starting Sunday, “in solidarity with the bereaved families,” according to his tweet.
