Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 173

Here are the important events from Monday, August 15.

  • Ukrainian forces came under heavy Russian fire and attempted to advance on several towns in the eastern part of Donetsk, which has become the epicenter of the nearly six-month-old war. However, they said they repelled several attacks.

  • “Every Russian soldier who fires either [Zaporizhzhia nuclear] plant, or use shoots as cover, it is necessary to understand that it becomes a special target for our intelligence agents, for our special services, for our army,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an address.

  • The exiled mayor of Enrhodor, where the Zaporizhia plant is located, said on Sunday in a telegram that the city was fired upon from the suburbs, killing civilians. Local Russian-based official Vladimir Rogov wrote on Telegram on Saturday that Ukrainian forces opened fire on the plant.

  • Russia said in a daily briefing that it had captured the village of Udi in eastern Kharkiv region.

  • Particularly heavy fighting is focused on the village of Pisky, near Donetsk airport, the British Ministry of Defense said in its daily intelligence bulletin on Twitter.
