Large aftershocks after 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Mexico – follow live

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck the Pacific coast of Mexico

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Mexico’s Michoacan region on Tuesday, a day after another powerful earthquake killed two people.

Monday’s 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck on the anniversary of two previous earthquakes in 1985 and 2017 that caused massive damage and killed hundreds or thousands of people.

One of the victims was killed when the facade of a department store in the Pacific port of Manzanillo was crushed, while another was found dead in a mall.

Although nerves were heightened from the annual nationwide earthquake drill that took place less than an hour earlier, the tremor went without that level of tragedy.

The tsunami alert issued immediately after the earthquake was later revised.

Officials said the tsunami threat was “largely over”, with minor fluctuations above and below the normal high tide of 0.3 meters for the next few hours.
