High on ‘mad honey’, disoriented bear cub rescued in northwest Turkey

ISTANBUL, Aug 11 (Reuters) – A disoriented brown bear cub believed to be intoxicated after consuming an overdose of “crazy honey” was rescued in northwestern Turkey’s Duzse province on Thursday.

Footage showed the bear writhing and crying as it sat on its stomach in the back of a pick-up truck after people rescued the emaciated animal from the forest.

Mad honey, or “Deli Bal” in Turkish, is a type of rhododendron honey that may have hallucinogenic effects.

The bear was brought to a veterinarian, where it is undergoing treatment and will be released into the wild in the coming days, local officials said, adding that it is in good condition.

The Ministry of Agriculture took to Twitter to urge Turks to name the bear.
