Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan said that he was hit by three bullets in his right leg He was injured in the firing last week.
Khan survived the firing at a political rally in Gujranwala on Thursday His party called it an assassination attempt.
“They took three bullets out of my right leg,” Khan said in an interview with CNN’s Becky Anderson on Monday. There was some tampering on the left which they have left in.”
Khan said his bone is damaged and his leg is in a cast, adding that it will take four to six weeks for him to resume normal activities.
Speaking from his residence at Zaman Park in Lahore, Khan said, “I have received information from the intelligence agencies. He was injured in the firing To be held last week.
When Anderson was asked on Monday what information he was given about the incident and by whom, Khan said: “Remember, I was in power for three-and-a-half years. I have connections with the intelligence agencies, which are working in different organizations. How did I get the information? from intelligence agencies. why Because most people are scared of what is going on in this country.”
Last week, Pakistan’s intelligence agency said it had communicated “threats” to Khan ahead of the rally. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) said in a statement, “The agency had already sensitized the federal government about the threat to the former prime minister, who passed the information on to the Punjab provincial government.”
The ISI also said that Khan’s security was under the control of the provincial government of Punjab, which is led by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Last Friday, Khan blamed establishment figures for plotting to kill him – a claim strongly denied by the ruling and security officials.
“As events unfolded, they are in that speech. How will this happen, how a fanatic will kill me under the name of blasphemy and they will blame him. It’s all in my speech that I put on television — it’s on social media,” he said in reference to a September 24 speech in which he outlined how the shooting would unfold.
Asked about critics’ suggestions that accusing him of attacking the current government would help Khan return to office, he replied that “there is no reason for me to accuse this government to come back to power,” he added. His Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has been popular since his ouster in April.
“They tried everything to somehow get me out of the way. It was planned when it didn’t happen,” he added.
Thursday’s attack killed one person and injured several others, while Khan was taken to a hospital in Lahore for treatment after the shooting. Speaking from hospital on Friday, and without giving evidence, Khan made accusations against Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Major General Faisal, who is a senior intelligence officer. CNN is reaching out to the three for comment.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting denied the allegations against Sharif and Sanaullah in a press conference last week.
Pakistan’s military has also called Khan’s claims “baseless and irresponsible” and “totally unacceptable and unacceptable”. In a statement on Friday night, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) termed Khan’s allegations against the army and military officials as “deeply regrettable and strongly condemned”.
Pakistan Army prides itself on being a highly professional and disciplined organization with a strong and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for illegal acts committed by uniformed personnel,” the statement said.
“However, if the honor, safety and dignity of our post is tarnished by vested interests through frivolous allegations, the organization will protect its officers and soldiers no matter what,” he added.
CNN reported earlier Monday that Khan had written to Pakistani President Arif Alvi, saying that since Khan’s government was ousted from power in April, his party had “faced an increasing level of false accusations, harassment, arrests and custodial torture.”
The letter, obtained by CNN from a source close to the former prime minister, is dated November 6, three days after Khan survived the shooting.
