Two people were killed and 60 injured in explosions at a fireworks warehouse in a shopping mall in Armenia’s capital Yerevan on Sunday, Russian news agencies reported.
Video footage showed thick gray smoke rising above a building, followed by an explosion that sent people running from the scene.
People were trying to clear debris and rubble from the heavily damaged building as clouds of dust and smoke hung in the air. Other bystanders were helping the victims.
Armenia’s Health Ministry said the number of injured people has reached 60, of which 22 have already been discharged. Two people died, the ministry said in a telegram.
Firefighters were struggling to contain the fire as fireworks continued to explode, complicating search and rescue operations, TASS quoted the head of the ministry’s rescue service as saying.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fireworks to explode.
